Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers unevenly steady in a narrow comparison. Much lighter auction receipts this week as auctions remain on their summer schedules. The drought still remains in the western regions of the state but most operators are able to keep their yearlings out on grass yet. The market is very active at the auctions as demand is very good for all weights of yearlings, but the best demand is for steers as cattle feeders are dealing with high costs of gain and want to buy the most efficient gaining cattle they can find. The cash fed cattle market topped at 146.50 in Iowa, still many dollars higher than the spot futures contract. Cattle feeders feel very bullish about the coming months of the fed cattle market and are willing to chase the yearling market to get cattle bought to fit those months. Slaughter cows uneven, Breakers 3.00 higher, Boner and Lean cows 5.00 to 10.00 lower, bulls 10.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
