Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 900 lbs steady to 2.00 higher, over 900 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 2.00 higher, except 800-950 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers as the cash fat market jumped up to 126.00. CME Live Cattle followed suit but still leaving a wide basis behind the cash trade. A large offering of yearlings, mostly feedyard backgrounded steers and heifer, as the feeder market has improved and backgrounders are willing to sell cattle at these prices. The drought continues to intensify as the heat continue and rain has been elusive, except in a few isolated areas. New crop corn futures remain below 5.50 which is helping to support the feeder market, especially as Dec Live Cattle has risen to 132.00 and Feb at 135.00. Cow-calf producers are adjusting their herd numbers as the drought is drastically lessening their carrying capacities along with the added concern of a greatly reduced hay crop. Slaughter cows mostly steady, bulls 2.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
