Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 850 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher, over 850 lbs steady to 2.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 850 lbs steady to 2.00 higher, over 850 lbs unevenly steady. Demand remains very good for yearling steers and heifers as dry corn harvest has begun and cattle feeders are fully ready to take on incoming cattle. The yearlings are moving off grass and there is great competition for these cattle to buy them while they are available. The CME Live Cattle contracts turned around this week and stopped their decline which helped to ease concerns and helped to support the feeder cattle market. Spring born calves continue to show up in town and the demand for these calves is good, there are plenty of buyers on the seats ready to take calves home and get them started on feed. Feed supplies are plentiful and projected costs of gain look low which is giving farmer feeders the incentive to buy calves. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 5.00 lower, bulls 3.00 to 4.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
