Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00 to 10.00 lower, instances of 15.00 lower on 800-850 lbs steers. Moderate demand this week due to the drastic losses in the CME LIve and Feeder Cattle contracts. The limit lower moves on the board, throughout the week, added an immense amount of pressure to the feeder cattle. There were plenty of cattle on offer this week as many feeder cattle producers need to sell last year's calf crop to make room to bring in the cows as calving time begins. The feeder cattle market was substantially lower but still it could not drop fast enough to keep up with the losses in the futures contracts. Now the summer and fall months of the Live Cattle futures are below the 100.00 mark, meaning large losses will occur for cattle feeders again unless the market improves. This could mean the second straight year of huge equity losses for the feeding sector, while the packing sector makes huge profits. This fact has cattle feeders shook and not sure how to proceed. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 higher, bull steady.
