Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 750 lbs steady to 3.00 higher, 750-1000 lbs unevenly steady, over 1000 lbs 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Feeder heifers steady to 4.00 higher, with instances to 5.00 higher. Moderate to good demand, improving to very good as the week progressed. After the CME cattle futures contracts posted a gain of over 2.00 on Monday cattle feeders were willing to bet that the worst of the market downturn was behind them. The volatility on the board continued throughout the week yet buyers didn't let that deter them. There were a lot of farmer feeders at the auctions that wanted to get cattle bought in spite of lower cash fed cattle and a much lower cattle futures outlook for the summer and fall months. Flesh is starting to get a little heavier as we move into spring as the weather has been mild allowing cattle to gain easily, if you can keep them out of the mud. The market was active throughout the week on the green cattle and those carrying extra condition as well. Slaughter cows were lower, yet uneven, Breakers and Boners 2.00 to 4.00 lower while Lean cows 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Bulls 2.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
