Compared to last week: Steer calves steady to 1.00 higher, heifer calves steady to 2.00 higher. Yearling feeder steers steady to 2.00 higher, instances to 5.00 higher, feeder heifers steady to 3.00 higher. Moderate to good demand for steer and heifer calves in central and western auction markets as the offering remains very large of long strings of very high quality calves, light to moderate demand in the eastern markets as fewer calves being offered as those producers wean and sell closer to and after the start of the new year. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers as the cash fed cattle sits at 115.00 plus and the CME Live Cattle contracts are signaling to cattle feeders that there is an opportunity to sell fat cattle profitably during those coming months. As the supply of yearlings tightens there is still just as many buyers who want to buy more yearlings which is creating a very active market. Farmer feeders are making progress with their corn harvest and are showing more interest in placing calves in their yards as their feed supply looks to be plentiful.

Slaughter cows 1.00 to 2.00 higher, bulls 2.00 to 3.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
