Compared to last week: Steer calves steady to 5.00 higher, heifer calves steady to 4.00 higher. Yearling feeder steers and heifers steady to 4.00 higher, except 800-900 lbs 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Moderate to good demand for calves, very good demand for yearlings. A very large offering of calves as the calf run is in full swing across western and central SD. Farmer feeders are still working on corn harvest, which is going slow as corn is wet and must be dried. This is keeping some of these buyers out of the market on calves yet as they simply don't have the time to take on a bawling calf and then fight the weather and the health risk that comes with placing them in a muddy, sloppy yard. Yard conditions remain less than ideal as rains, and snow now, have remained frequent. There remains a lot of interest in feeding yearlings and the market is very active especially as the supply gets tighter and tighter. The rising cash fed cattle and futures markets have really helped to give cattle feeders a dose of optimism that they won't continue to lose money, this has really helped to support the feeder cattle market. This is was evident on calves too as the market has managed to get higher during the height of the calf run and the resulting tight availability of trucks to haul these calves. Slaughter cows and bulls 2.00 to 3.00 higher.
