Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 700 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher with instances to 10.00 higher, over 700 lbs steady to 3.00 higher except 1000-1050 lbs to 5.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 higher, over 600 lbs steady to 3.00 higher. Demand moderate to good at times, especially on the larger auctions where there were many long strings of yearlings offered. CME Live Cattle futures finally stabilized and rose higher moving up closer towards the cash market. This new found support in the futures contracts added some much needed optimism that the cash market could find stable ground. Outgoing

fed cattle continue to lose money, as do the backgrounded cattle that are currently being sold, which has really put a damper on the feeder cattle market. May and June were an incredibly rough two months in the futures as the retracement was quick and severe from the spring highs seen in late April. The feeder cattle auctions were rather active this week in spite of the massive losses in equity that has taken place. Slaughter cows 2.00 to 4.00 lower, bulls steady to 2.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
