Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00-15.00 lower. Steer calves over 450lbs 10.00 lower, under 450lbs 10.00 higher. Heifer calves over 450lbs 5.00-10.00 lower, under 450lbs steady to 5.00 higher. Demand moderate to good. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 higher. Slaughter bulls 1.00 lower. This week the feeder market has come under heavy pressure, driven by boxed beef values falling more than 50.00 since September 1st. Fat cattle that traded at 245.00 in the North, 45 days ago, are now bringing 228.00-230.00. Flyweight cattle traded at a premium this week as buyers anticipated tighter supplies. Much of the fall run has already come to town, and young calves may soon be in short supply. Demand for replacement cows remains very strong. Prices usually ease in the fall but plentiful hay and low feed costs are driving herd restocking for many producers.
