Compared to last week steers less than 500 lbs sold 5.00 lower, over 500 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher except 9 weights sold 7.00 lower. Heifers less than 700 lbs sold 2.00 higher over 700 lbs sold 2.00 to 5.00 lower. Demand was moderate to good throughout the week. Wildfires isn't a term used in the state very often but due to misfortune it was used a lot this week. Around 746,000 acres of grassland was burn in four different fires. Al lot of ranchers are faced with some difficult decisions as summer grass pastures are probably not going to be able to utilize especially in the Sandhills. The fragile root systems will need a lot of moisture for the grass to flourish this summer growing season. The hardgrass range might be able to turn out later in the summer with ample rain. Quite a lot of bales of hay were also lost in this weeks fire. Area feedlots traded show list lower on the week with live sales 5.00 lower at 235.00 and dressed sales 8.00 lower at 372.00.
