Compared to last week steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Demand was good at the two reporting auctions. Couple different types of cattle on hand at the auctions. Wednesday's sale was yearlings coming off native grass and Saturday's receipts came mostly out of backgrounding lots. Flesh and weighing conditions were a little different but, it didn't deter buyers from purchasing. With feedlots tuning a hefty profit on slaughter steers and heifers buyers are very willing to jump back into the historic cattle market. Many buyers are more concerned there will not be enough feeder cattle to go around more than the cost of the cattle in today's market. With a bumper corn crop on the horizon many farmer/feeders are planning on walking their crop to town as they continue to purchase cattle to feed. Irrigated and dry land fields look very well with several areas of the state receiving over 20 inches of rain since the middle of May. Feedlot managers continue to be in the driver's seat and held firm on asking prices for their show-list. Live sales sold steady to 5.00 higher at 245.00 and dressed sales sold 3.00 higher at 383.00 on negotiated prices.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
