Compared to last week steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Demand was moderate to good for calves and feeders. Good demand for cow/calf pairs as some cattlemen continue to look for livestock to fill their summer grass needs. Feedlot received an upward push on their market ready cash cattle. Live sales sold 3.00 to 4.00 higher at 190.00 and dressed sales sold 2.00 to 3.00 higher from 298.00 to 300.00. Carry over hay stocks up 79 percent from last year with around 950,000 tons on hand going into the 2024 production year. Handful of alfalfa producers started cutting last week and hope to get it dried out soon. With Memorial Day weekend in site, it may be hard to get enough drying days to bale hay. Rain showers are in the forecast for most of this week.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
