Compared to last week on comparable offerings of steers under 850 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher. Heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Bred cows sold steady with higher undertones noted on cow/calf pairs. Demand was moderate to good. Offering included fall calves and yearling feeders most out of background lots with a few off early cool season grass pastures. Looking at the large head count on feeder cattle from last year was the start of the BBQ sale season. This annual event will start on Thursday as most auctions host an anniversary sale bringing in large receipts and large crowds of buyers. Feedlot trade mostly steady on a rather interesting week in the harvest sector on steers and heifers. Live sales sold at 120.00 and dressed sales from 190.00-191.00. Haying season started last week with hot, dry, and windy days helped producers bale top quality alfalfa hay. Quite a lot of haylage and ryelage was put in pits at several feed lots.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
