Nebraska Weekly Livestock Auction Summary

Mon Aug 10, 2020
USDA Livestock, Poultry & Grain Market News · Federal-State Market News Service, Kearney, NE (LS-WH)
Receipts 13,180Last week 10,241Year ago 12,624

Compared to last week fly- weight steers and heifers sold steady on thin test. Steers from 500 to 800 lbs sold 5.00 to 9.00 higher, over 800 lbs sold unevenly steady. Heifers under 900 lbs sold 7.00 to 10.00 higher and over 900 lbs sold fully steady. Demand was good for all offerings reported. Bulk of the receipts came off of summer grass. Most buyers this time of year like procuring yearlings off of summer grass as the cattle should perform in the feedlot with good compensatory gains. Most crops look very good, however there has been some hail and wind damage the last few weeks. Few reports in the far NE of the state that silage choppers are gearing up. Baled hay this week has been mostly steady across the state. Best demand is for hay in large squares as the loads don't require overload banners for traveling out of state. Feedlot sales have been limited so far this week, Lot manager have dug there heals in and are trying to push the market dollars higher than last week. As of this Friday am writing only 8300 head of cash cattle have traded with live prices ranging from 105.00-107.00 and dressed prices from 165.00-170.00.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
