Compared to last week, steer calves sold unevenly steady with yearling steers steady to 3.00 higher. Heifer calves sold steady to 2.00 lower, and yearlings sold steady. Demand was moderate to good for bawling calves with good, instances very good demand for yearlings off of summer grass. Most buyers know this time of year, yearling cattle are in short supply so buyers bid readily on load lots and packages of yearling for fall and winter feeding. Most sellers pick a week and sell there livestock about the same time every year and the bulk of the calves and some yearlings are a few pounds lighter than last year. Most pasture grass grew rapidly all summer and never harden up like most years. A lot of producers complained about the "washy" grass and it has effected the weaning weight on a lot of calves. To add more insult to injury 500 to 600 lbs steers calves average 16.00-24.00 per cwt less this week than same week last year. With October upon us and the swings in weather and temperatures several calf buyers looked to procure cattle with at least two rounds of vaccinations especially, the pre-weaning vaccinations. Feedlot sales remain inactive at press time as feedlots are priced at a higher price than last weeks trade. First reports of ice and snow in the panhandle on Thursday with Friday morning temperatures in the mid 20's across several areas of the state.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
