North Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Compared to last week: Steer calves under 550 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher, over 550 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower, heifer calves 3.00 to 6.00 lower except 450-500 lbs and 550-600 lbs 1.00 higher. Good demand for steer and heifer calves, by far the best demand is centered on light fleshed, light weight cattle that will run on next summer’s grass as yearlings. Cattle feeders are concerned as the cash fed cattle market is not attaining the heights they were hoping for, and needing, to reach profitability on the yearlings that were placed on feed this year. Corn prices are much higher than last year, which is pushing breakeven prices higher, which is adding some pressure to the feeder cattle market. Grass cattle buyers are willing to push the market to get their light cattle bought now while they can be found in large numbers, which is making for a very active market for those cattle.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
