Compared to last week: Steer calves 5.00 to 10.00 higher, heifer calves 2.00 to 5.00 higher. Much improved demand for calves this week, especially for steers. More cattle feeders want to feed steers as they will reach a heavier finished weight, usually 150-200 lbs heavier than the heifers, allowing them to return more dollars per head. As the weather improved and snows started to melt it made it easier for cow/calf producers to get their calves shipped to town. Cattle feeders were eager to buy these calves as many of them have their corn harvest complete and with a rally in the futures contracts the cloud that hung over the market started to disperse. Large auction receipts expected again next week as the fall marketing season continues.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
