Compared to last week: Feeder steers 14.00 to 25.00 lower, feeder heifers 7.00 to 15.00 lower. Light to moderate demand for feeder cattle this week. Cattle feeders were feeling good about the market last week as cash fed cattle rose to 120.00 on Wednesday but that changed by the start of this week. The futures market quickly plunged sharply lower and moved back into the mid 80s and low 90s. As the futures collapsed cattle feeders had to seriously rethink their approach to buying feeder cattle. Feeder cattle were sharply lower this week as cattle feeders struggled to buy cattle that would have a breakeven price in line with what the board was predicting for the coming months. Flesh condition is a major factor in a downward market, fleshy cattle were discounted heavily this week. Many feeder cattle producers chose not to offer any cattle for sale this week due to the extreme weakness in the futures contracts.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
