Compared to last report(6-30-25): Feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Demand was mostly good for very light offerings. Quality this week was mostly plain to average. Many unreportable, blemished cattle continue to be seen, especially on yearlings and long weaned summer calves. Cutting bulls continue to sell on very good demand as buyers search for bulls suitable to cut and make steers and competed with buyers looking for bulls to test and turn out with cows. The internet remains very active with several buyers noticed. CME feeder cattle positions pushed higher again as demand from boxed beef prices helped increase packer margins over the last couple weeks and have packers continue to give record prices for finished cattle. The August feeder cattle contract closed Friday at 325.325, while the September and October contracts closed at 325.40 and 323.20 respectfully. Market activity this week was mostly active with good buyer participation noticed. Weigh up cows sold on good demand for light to moderate offerings. Slaughter cow demand was mostly moderate to good and stronger than the week prior to the 4th of July holiday. Increases in demand were noticed from southern packers as increases in prices of southern slaughter cows have allowed them to become more competitive with Northern packers. Breaking cows sold mostly 2.00-4.00 higher, boning and lean cows sold 2.00-5.00 higher. The majority of the cow offering continues to be purchased to feed, however a larger portion was purchased for immediate harvest this week. Feeding cow demand was very good. Feeding cows sold steady to firm. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 3.00-4.00 higher as packers showed strong demand for bulls for immediate slaughter. Several feeding bull buyers remain active in the market. Feeding bulls sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Many bulls which were purchased to feed had been turned out with cows and needed to be fed in order to recoup some yield lost in breeding season. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on very good demand as several sets of high quality young cows were seen this week. One large consignment of very high quality 3 year old cows which lost calves were seen this week. These offerings were met with very good demand. Too many differences in type and kind were seen between the two weeks to give an accurate market trend. Higher undertones were notice on a very attractive offering.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
