Compared to last week: Only one sale was held last week as auctions continue with summer sale schedules. Feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Demand remains good despite light offerings. Quality this week was mostly plain to average and mostly offered in small packages or as singles. Flesh conditions were mostly light as most offerings were coming off grass. CME positions firmed slightly following the cattle on feed report that was released last week. The September contract closed Frida at 251.20 while the October closed at 253.975. Market activity this week was mostly active. Weigh up cows sold on good to very good demand for light offerings. Packers opted to send the majority of cows to immediate harvest. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady on breaking cows. Boning cows sold 1.00-2.00 higher. Lean cows sold 3.00-5.00 higher. Feeding cows sold mostly steady to firm. Slaughter bulls sold fully steady. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed were too lightly tested this week and last to develop any market trend. Demand for rebreed and recipient cows continues to be good to very good, and these buyers are very competitive with feeding buyers as they bid on attractive offerings.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
