Compared to last week: Steer and heifer feeder cattle all sold fully steady. Quality this week was mostly average and overall not as attractive as last weeks offering. All size packages sold on good demand. Demand for grass cattle remains good to very good. Positive market news late in the week helped spur interest for late week sales, as packers purchased slaughter cattle in the western corn belt at 175.00-177.00 and in Nebraska at 177.00. This pushed CME prices higher for both live cattle and feeder cattle Thursday. Market activity was mostly active this week despite a smaller offering of feeders. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for light to moderate offerings. Packer buyers showed good demand for both slaughter and feeding cows this week. Slaughter cows sold 1.00-3.00 higher on all offerings. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-4.00 higher as packers were more competitive over high quality offerings. Weigh up conditions overall were mixed but many sets of cows were pushing moderate fill. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on very good demand as several order buyers were searching for this class of cows. The best demand was seen for first calf heifers which lost calves. Quality this week was attractive for these offerings and most sold 13.00-18.00 higher than last week.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
