Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs sold generally steady to firm, steer calves over 500 lbs sold unevenly steady. Heifer calves under 450 lbs sold mostly 5.00 lower on a lower quality offering, heifers over 450 lbs sold unevenly steady. Quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive, with light weight calves seeing the most variation in quality. Demand was mostly moderate for moderate offerings. CME positions have improved in recent week and cash prices have pushed higher, however buyers were selective as high quality calves sold higher and average quality calves were met with lighter demand. Weaned calves saw stronger demand this week as weaned calf quality improved. Most calves on offer this week were weaned 50 to 60 days. Market activity was mostly moderate to active this week. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand for heavy offerings. Demand from packers was mostly light, however demand from private feeders was mostly moderate. Feeding cows sold unevenly steady on high quality cows suitable to feed to premium white, short term feeding or turn out cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm on boning and lean cows, breaking cows sold steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold 10.00-15.00 higher as higher interest and more participants were seen for cows suitable to rebreed.
