Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs sold 5.00-15.00 lower, steers over 500 lbs sold unevenly steady. Heifer calves under 450 lbs sold mostly 3.00-5.00 higher, heifers over 450 lbs sold unevenly steady. Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive. Weather was a big market influencer this week as cold and snowy conditions were seen late last week and many sets of calves green up significantly in flesh condition from last week to this week. Additionally many calves showed signs of stress due to very cold temperatures this week which caused some buyers to show reserve as they bid on lightweight calves. Heifer demand was uneven this past week as high quality offerings sold mostly higher and packages of just feeder type offerings sold weak. Market activity this week was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand and mostly moderate offerings. Packers continue to purchase the majority of the cow offering to feed, either for the upcoming holidays or to premium white. Short term feeding cows sold steady to weak this week. High quality feeding cows suitable to feed to premium white sold steady to 3.00 lower. Quality this week was mostly plain to average and not as attractive as last week. Slaughter bulls sold steady to weak. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady.
