Compared to last week: Both steers and heifer calves sold unevenly steady, from weak to firm. Yearling steers sold fully steady in a light test. Yearling heifers sold steady to 3.00 higher. Quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive. Very few load lots were seen this week but these offerings were met with the best demand. CME positions were lower throughout much of the week and feeder offerings followed board positions much of the week as calves were higher early in the week but lower as the week progressed. The September feeder contract closed at 158.475, 6.175 lower, while the October closed at 162.475, 5.95 lower. Market activity this week was mostly active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate demand for heavy offerings. Packers continue to try to buy cows lower as supplies of cows only suitable for slaughter remains high. Feeding cows sold on mostly good demand las both packer and feeder buyers showed good demand for high quality cows. Feeding cows sold unevenly steady with high quality cows selling mostly higher, while thin cows sold mostly lower. Demand from buyers looking for cows that could be bred remains strong. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 2.00 lower. Weigh up conditions were mostly below average with many cows filling up after coming off dry range and pasture. Demand for stock cows was mostly good this week. Many buyers were looking for young cows to rebreed. These offerings sold mostly 10.00 higher.
