Compared to last week: Yearling steer and heifers were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed. Last week was a short week due to the holiday. Unweaned steer calves under 550 lbs sold sharply higher with most sales 10.00-15.00 higher on a much more attractive offering this week. Steers over 550 lbs sold steady to 6.00 higher. Unweaned heifer calves under 550 lbs sold steady to 10.00 higher. Unweaned heifers 550-599 lbs sold 4.00-6.00 higher; Heifers over 600 lbs sold generally steady. Quality this week was mostly attractive with many sets of high quality reputation cattle on offer. Demand for grass cattle was very good this week. Many sets of light calves suitable to run on grass sold for more dollars per head than their heavier siblings. Overall demand was good to very good for moderate to heavy offerings. Market activity was mostly active this week with many bidders and buyers actively bidding on offerings. Weigh up cows sold on mixed demand this week. Demand was light to start the week and improved drastically as the week progressed. Packers became more aggressive on slaughter cows as the week progressed. Slaughter cows sold uneven this week from 1.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Feeding cow demand was good throughout the week. Feeding cows sold generally steady. Packers and cow feeders continue to put thin cows away for the holiday break and these cows sold near steady with some increased demand seen late in the week due to increased slaughter demand. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher. Feeding bull buyers continue to but bulls away on feed these offerings sold steady to firm as packers showed slightly more demand for slaughter bulls this week. Weigh up conditions were mostly average

to below average again this week. Demand for rebreed type cattle was mixed this week. Good demand was seen for high quality one iron cattle suitable to rebreed while feeding type cattle sold with lower undertones. This class of cows sold steady to 3.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
