Compared to last week: Yearling steer were too lightly tested last week to develop any market trend. This was a short week due to the holiday. Only Miles City had a feeder special this week. Unweaned steer and heifer calves sold unevenly, however most calves sold with lower undertones. Demand was mostly light this week. A very limited selection of buyers wanted to start loads this week. Pre-consigned offerings were limited this week and many buyers didn't want to start loads without knowing if they could finish them. Quality was mostly plain to average this week. Market activity was slow. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand and heavy offerings. Cow quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive. Many long strings of cows were seen this week, with multiple load lots being sold at the time. Feeding buyers were more competitive than packer buyers this week. The best demand was seen for short term feeding cows to feed for the up coming holiday weeks. Feeding cows sold steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold on mostly light demand this week. Packers attempted to buy cattle lower however demand from feeding buyers helped support average dressing and some low dressing cows. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady to firm. Feeding bull buyers continue to but bulls away on feed. Weigh up conditions were mostly average to below average again this week. Demand for rebreed type cattle was mixed this week. Good demand was seen early in the week and lighter demand was seen later in the week. This class of cows sold unevenly steady.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
