Compared to last week: Unweaned steer calves were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher

undertones were noticed. Yearling steers sold mostly steady in a narrow comparison. However, yearling steers weakened in price as the week

progressed. Unweaned heifer calves were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were

noticed. Yearling heifers 700-799 lbs sold steady to 3.00 higher, 800-1049 lbs heifers sold unevenly this week with sales from 5.00 lower to

4.00 higher, mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Early sales were strong this week as CME positions pressed higher, however CME positions pushed

lower as the week progressed and so did yearling prices. Limited offerings and plainer quality later in the week also weighed on the market.

CME positions as of yesterdays close showed the September, October and November at 139.925, 141.45, and 142.20 respectfully. That's a

gain of 0.75 on the September, 1.85 on the October and 1.80 on the November. Buyer attendance was strong early in the week but lightened

as the week progressed. Market activity was moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mixed demand for mostly light offerings. Feeding

buyers drove the market early in the week pushing cows mostly 3.00-5.00 higher, however later in the week several feeding cow buyers were

absent and feeding cows sold 2.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter cows sold unevenly steady from 3.00 lower to 4.00 higher in a narrow comparison.

Weigh up conditions were mostly average to below average this week. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 1.00 higher. Demand for rebreed type

cattle continues to be limited. However, higher undertones were seen this week on a higher quality offering compared to the last several

weeks.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
