Compared to last week: Steer calves weighing less than 550 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher, 550 lbs and heavier sold steady to 3.00 lower, with the exception of full load lots which sold steady to 2.00 higher. Heifer calves weighing less than 550 lbs sold unevenly steady, 550-699 lbs sold mostly 2.00-4.00 lower, 700 lbs and heavier were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed. Quality this week was average to attractive. Demand was mostly moderate to good. Load lots sold with the best demand this week. Quality was mostly average to attractive. Demand for cattle to develop into yearlings continues to be mostly good, despite lower CME contract prices. Feedlot ready cattle sold on mostly moderate demand this week as lower CME contract prices continue to be reflective in demand and prices of this class of cattle. Market activity this week was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate to good demand, with very good demand seen at times. Packers were very active this week buying cows for immediate harvest. Demand for boning and lean cows was very good with all packers fighting over these offerings. Fleshy, breaking and premium white cows sold on mostly moderate demand. Packers put large numbers of cows on feed throughout the fall and these cows are now starting to come out of the feedlot. This is what is depressing demand for fed cows. Slaughter cows sold generally steady to weak on breaking and premium white cows, boning and lean cows sold mostly 3.00-6.00 higher. Feeding cows sold on moderate to good demand. Packers purchased a limited portion of the cow offering to feed this week. Feeding cows sold steady to firm. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Young age cows suitable to feed or re-breed sold unevenly steady.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
