Compared to last week: Yearling steers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed on all offerings. Yearling heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Steer calves under 500 lbs sold unevenly steady from 3.00 lower to 5.00 higher, steer calves weighing more than 500 lbs sold fully steady. Heifers calves under 450 lbs sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower, 450-549 lbs heifers sold steady to 2.00 higher, 500-699 lbs sold generally steady to weak. Quality this week was mixed from plain to very attractive. Weaned calves have started to be marketed. Buyers showed good demand for healthy appearing, weaned calves which were given two rounds of shots and weaned over 45 days. Buyers offered these type offerings strong premiums ranging from 5.00-10.00 cwt. Demand for lightweight calves improved late in the trading session leading to uneven prices again this week. Calves with two rounds of preconditioning shots sold with the best demand again this week. The cattle on feed report will be released later today and early analyst estimates have very large placement numbers for the previous month. This has pressured the futures market over the last few days. Market activity this week was moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand this week. Heavy cow supplies continue to be seen with over 1,200 cows seen at three sales this week. Heavy cow supplies have allowed packers to harvest very large numbers of cows. The latest data from USDA FSIS shows cow and bull harvest for week ending November 9th at 147,045 head. Packers showed good demand for cows to start the week, however they backed off cow prices as the week progressed. A large portion of the cow offering has been going on feed and with so many cows filling feedlots many have filled up. Feeding cows sold mostly steady, however a few late week sales were mostly 5.00 lower. The cutter cow cutout remains strong as tight imported supplies are driving domestic trimming prices higher. Imported 90% lean trimmings topped 315.00 cwt this week. The cutout as of Thursdays close was 185.67, 0.41 lower than Wednesdays value, however 1.08 higher than last Thursdays value. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to 1.00 higher. Young age cows suitable to rebreed sold on mostly moderate demand. Offerings sold mostly steady to 8.00 higher.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
