Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed on all offerings. Steer calves under 500 lbs sold unevenly steady, 4.00 higher to 5.00 lower; 500-599 lbs sold fully steady; 600-749 lbs steers sold steady to 3.00 higher. All weights of heifer calves sold mostly steady to 3.00 lower. Quality this week was mixed from plain to very attractive much like last week, however this week a larger portion of the offering were of plain to average quality. Calves with two rounds of preconditioning shots sold with the best demand again this week. Offerings sold with a solid 8.00-12.00 premium for fully preconditioned calves. Demand for light weight calves remains light caused mostly by dry conditions on the west coast. The April live cattle contract continues to inch higher. As of Thursdays close the April live cattle contract closed at 126.10, 0.25 higher than last Thursdays close. Transportation issues continued this week as trucks remain tight. Market activity this week was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows and sold on mostly moderate to good demand for heavy offerings. Packer showed better demand for slaughter cows again this week. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher on lean and boning cows, breaker cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 higher. The cutter cow cutout gained substantial ground this week led mostly by 90% lean trim which sold sharply higher. The cutter cow cutout as of yesterdays close was 184.59 up 1.77 from Wednesdays value. and 6.05 from last Wednesdays value. Heavy supplies of cows were seen this week. Cow slaughter has increased significantly over the last four weeks as packers take advantage of huge profit margins. Beef cow slaughter for week ending

November 2nd was 70,975, the highest since May 2013. Feeding cows sold steady to 5.00 lower on thin cows which packers are purchasing for the holiday lull and farmer feeders are purchasing to turn out. Fewer farmer feeder orders were seen this week allowing packers to purchase thin cows mostly lower. High quality, large frame, fleshy cows continue to sell on good demand and sold generally steady this week as both feeders and packers showed good demand for these offerings. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 1.00-3.00 higher. Young age cows suitable to re-breed sold on mostly light to moderate demand. Offerings sold mostly steady to 8.00 lower.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
