Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones

were noticed. Steer calves weighing less than 450 lbs sold mostly 8.00-15.00 higher, 450-549 lbs steer calves sold mostly 3.00-6.00 higher,

steers 550 lbs and heavier sold steady to 3.00 higher. Heifer calves weighing less than 400 lbs sold mostly 4.00-8.00 higher, heifer calves 400-

699 lbs sold mostly 1.00-4.00 higher, with the exception of 450-499 lbs which sold mostly 5.00-6.00 higher. Quality was mostly average to

very attractive this week with many full or part loads of calves in the offering. Calves with two rounds of preconditioning shots sold on good to

very good demand again this week. Premiums for fully preconditioned calves ranged from 8.00-15.00 per head and mostly 8.00-12.00.

Lightweight calves suitable to run on grass sold with the best demand this week. Demand for heavyweight calves lightened slightly this week

as calves become increasingly difficult to hit the April board the later calves are purchased this fall. CME positions continued to improve this

week. The April live cattle contract settled at 123.95 as of Thursdays close, 2.25 higher than last Thursdays close. Market activity this week

was mostly active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand. Packers showed mostly light demand for slaughter cows,

however demand was higher this week than last week. The best demand seen this week was for fleshy cows. Packers competed with feeding

buyers over these offerings throughout the week. Slaughter cows sold mostly 1.00-4.00 higher on lean and boning cows. Breaking cows sold

mostly to feed last week thus no trend is available. Slaughter bulls sold unevenly steady on mixed demand and mixed yielding conditions.

Young age cows suitable to re-breed sold on light to moderate demand. These offerings sold steady to firm in a narrow comparison.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
