Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 10.00 lower. Supply was light to moderate, as the weather heated back up, limiting movement once again. The market came under a lot of pressure this week. The loss of another packing plant mid-week captured most of the headlines and was extremely bearish for the markets. Demand remains good, although buyers are selective and discounts are being applied to the lighter weight calves without shots, weaning, or excessive hair, that come with a bit more risk. Auction movement over the last month has been incredibly light and buyers haven't had the opportunity to fill much in the way of orders. A few more replacement sales this week continued to see very good demand, drawing a lot of buying interest. Once again stick-out sales on drafts over 20 head mainly was heavier weight cattle. Windsor Livestock Auction sold 73 head of 644 lb. steers for 430.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 81 head of 710 lb. steers for 382.50 and 176 head of 891 lb. steers for 338.00. Callaway Livestock Center sold 62 head of 821 lb. steers for 359.00 Lolli Brothers Livestock Market sold 2 loads of 705 lb. heifers for 376.75. Boxed beef cut-out values were mixed for the week. Choice closed at 375.30, up 10.94 and Select closed at 351.24, down 1.13 compared to last week. The choice/select spread is 24.06 per cwt. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday were reported near 43K head, trade in the southern plains was very limited. Prices started the week steady, but lost ground each day, ending the week sharply lower. Live sales reported mostly at 228.00-230.00 and dressed sales fell mostly from 362.00-368.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 1676 head with a weighted average weight of 543.10 lbs. and a price value of 427.91, 9.11 lower than last week. The steer/heifer is 39.39 per cwt.
