Compared to last week, feeders sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher than the very light offering from last week. Although still hot the weather wasn't as unbearable or dangerous as it has been for the last few weeks and auction volume picked up to a pretty normal late summer pace. Auction prices continued to set new highs nearly every day with every barn posting some new record on some weight or class at every auction. Live and Feeder futures established several new records last week until a huge sell off on Friday, even with that all contracts still closed higher for the week. Demand for feeders continues to be incredible and a few special replacement cow sales this week also had recorded sales that made for a lot of chatter and disbelief at the coffee shops the next morning. Pastures continue to be in very good shape for Mid-August and some of the areas in the south that showed back up on the drought monitor last week managed to get a much-needed shower or two over the weekend. More reports of army worms stretching into central MO now means producers need to be checking crops and pastures every day. Stick out sales this week included 27 head of 525 lb. steers at Callaway Livestock Center which sold for 459.00 and a load of 855 lb. steers for 344.75. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold 52 head of 570 lb. steers for 445.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 32 head of 610 lb. steers for 425.00. Mo-Kan Livestock Market sold 21 head of 665 lb. steers for 404.00. Green City Livestock Market sold 25 head of 723 lb. steers for 380.00, a load of 800 lb. steers for 364.00, and a load of 944 lb. steers for 336.50. Windsor Livestock Auction sold 87 head of 585 lb. heifers for 394.00 and 126 head of 804 lb. heifers for 327.50. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold a load of 707 lb. heifers for 359.50. Boxed beef cutout values were higher for the week, choice closed on Friday at 378.84, up 15.62 and select closed at 355.09, down 14.59 compared to last Friday. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report totaled just under 24K for the week. Prices in the south early week were higher, steady to lower on trade later week in the north, likely more trade took place after the report cut off time. Live trade in the south mostly 237.00, in the north live sales mostly 242.00-245.00 and dressed sales were mostly at 380.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 4036 head with a weighted average weight of 551.53 lbs. and a price value of 415.20, 6.05 higher than last week establishing another new record high. The steer/heifer spread is 38.88 per cwt.
