Compared to the light test from last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 10.00 to 15.00 higher. The feeder supply was moderate. Although several loads of yearling steers and 7wt. heifers sold at various auctions, the majority of the offering was calves under 600 lbs. Also of note was that 47% of the total feeder offering was heifers. Markets once again spiked higher with many never-before-seen prices flashing across the sold boards at the auction barns. Demand for all classes of cattle is good to very good. Many areas of the state continue to be pretty wet and field work either planting or hay wrapping has been limited. Pastures are in good condition but about everything would benefit from a little more sunshine and some warmer days. With the markets in record territory once again nearly every sale is impressive but a couple of notables this week was that the weighted average price statewide for 500-550 lb. M&L 1 steers was over 400.00 per cwt and 700-750 lb. M&L 1 heifers was over 300.00 per cwt. Stick out sales were abundant making it hard to figure out just was a highlight among an entire week of highlights. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 55 head of 503 lb. steers for 426.00, as well as 32 head of 706 lb. steers for 344.00. Ozarks Regional Stockyards sold 28 head of 653 lb. steers for 351.00. Unionville Livestock Market sold 2 loads of steers 857 and 866 lbs. both for 330.00. Multiple barns sold loads of 700-750 lb. heifers this week from 310.00-317.00 with Kingsville Livestock Auction selling 148 head of 703 lbs. heifers which sold for 320.00. Boxed beef cutouts were higher for the week. Choice closed on Friday at 342.90, up 6.42 and Select closed at 325.35, up 5.24 compared to last Friday. Negotiated feedlot sales developed with the bulk of the trade reported on Wednesday with a few more sales on both Thursday and Friday, pushing volume to the largest since at least last fall. As of the 2:00 cutoff time for Friday afternoons report nearly 96K head was reported for the week. Live prices were 4.00 to 5.00 higher and dressed sales were 7.00-10.00 higher. Live sales were reported mostly at 218.00 in the south and 222.00 in the north, dressed sales were reported mostly at 350.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 8456 head with a weighted average weight of 534.60 lbs. and a price value of 387.36, 12.86 higher than last week and once again a new record high. The steer/heifer spread is 44.26 per cwt.
