Compared to last week, feeders sold unevenly steady from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate. Many reporters have noted the change in the make-up of the feeder supply over the last two or three weeks. A much larger percentage of the offering now changing to short or non-weaned new crop calves carrying a bit more flesh and not providing that immediate gain for new owners. Demand remains good although prices are at lower levels. Spring planting is running at full force and a ton of progress has been made over the last two weeks. Moisture is still very much a concern, although it has been nice for field work being this dry in April is not a good way to start the year. There was even some haying that took place last week most of which will be wrapped but there was at least a little dry alfalfa put up now. The monthly Cattle on Feed report was released on Friday afternoon and should be viewed as neutral to slightly positive placements were reported 12% below last year and slightly below the pre-report estimates. On Feed numbers was reported as 1% above last year and at the bottom of the pre-report range of estimates. Marketing were reported 14% below year ago levels but again right at the bottom of pre-report estimates. A few notable sales this week included a part load of 459 lb. steers at Callaway Livestock Center that sold at 372.00. A load of 707 lb. steers at Lolli Brothers Livestock Market sold for 279.75. Callaway Livestock Center sold a full load of 848 lb. steers for 241.75. Ozarks Regional Stockyards sold a part load of 545 lb. heifers for 293.00 and New Cambria Livestock Auction had a load of 701 lb., heifers which brought 259.50. Boxed beef cutouts values were lower for the week. Choice closed on Friday at 295.67, down 4.90 and select closed at 290.83, down 4.91 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the Friday afternoon report totaled about 49K head price levels were steady to slightly lower this week. Live sales were reported at 182.00-184.00 and Dressed sales at 292.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 5,762 head with a weighted average weight of 530.09 lbs. and a price value of 309.71, 1.91 higher than a week ago. The steer/heifer spread is 36.56.
