Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate. Not to say there wasn’t some quality offerings in the mix this week but nothing like the overwhelming multiple load lots of yearlings that was present in sales over the last two weeks. Because of this the extreme top highs weren’t seen at every auction but when comparing equal quality the market was sure enough steady to a touch better where comparisons of like kinds could be made. The areas of the south central and southeast that had been missing out on rains much of the summer finally got a nice 1-2 inches of rain this past week. The majority of the rest of the state is still very wet with standing water still in many fields. Pastures are plentiful for this time of year and despite challenges it has not been a bad year for the cattle farmer in the state all in all. Boxed beef cutout values have continued their downward trend to more “normal” levels. Choice closed Friday at 267.94, down 10.64 and select at 251.79, down 5.62 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the final report Friday afternoon totaled about 74K for the week. Live sales were reported mostly from 120.00-125.00 and dressed sales mostly 196.00-202.00. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 5006 head with a weighted average weight of 556.83 and a price value of 171.00, 0.24 lower than last week.
