Compared to two weeks ago, steers under 750 lbs. and heifers under 650 lbs. sold fully 5.00 higher with spots up to 10.00 higher, heavier weight feeders sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher. The supply of feeders was heavy even though only about one-third of the normal reported auctions were back to business. Those that did have sales were mostly advertised as some type of special with several large consignments of reputation cattle on hand, most with a round to two of shots and plenty of days weaning behind them. There was also several calves, especially heifers, noted as being thin fleshed which buyers of course see as having potential for quick weight gains. Demand was good to very good especially on lighter weight grazing type calves and buyers were eager to get back to work filling orders following the holiday break. As of this report very few feedlot sales have been reported so far this week, a small hand full at 125.00 live. Last week’s market was mostly 121.00-123.00 live and 195.00 dressed. Boxed beef cutout values closed Thursday with choice at 208.25, down .71, and select 202.63, down 1.94, compared to last Friday. The Missouri Stocker Formula for Friday consisted of 5672 head with a weighted average of 560.16 lbs. and a price value of 160.54 which is 5.20 higher than the last published formula on Monday, December 23.
