Compared to last week, steers and heifers not well tested except steers over 800 lbs sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Supply light again this week. Demand was moderate to good. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 4.00 lower. Compared to last week, limited trading of Kansas negotiated fed cattle sold unevenly steady at 256.00 to 258.00. In the hay market, demand remained strong this past week as much of the state continues to experience drought conditions. Scattered storms brought limited relief to some areas; however, hay demand remains elevated. Tight inventories combined with strong demand have pushed prices substantially higher. According to the US Drought Monitor for the week of May 21st, in the High Plains Region, temperatures were above normal across much of the region this week, with average readings ranging from the low 40s along the Canadian border and in the mountains to the mid-70s across southern Kansas.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Kansas barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
