Compared to last week, steers under 700 lbs sold 5.00 to 10.00 lower, while those over 700 lbs sold uneven;, 2.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Heifers sold uneven; 5.00 lower to 5.00 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 4.00 lower. Kansas negotiated fed cattle sales sold 4.00 lower at 240.00. In the hay market, hay movement has continued at a slow but steady pace. There has been a noticeable uptick in hay being transported on area roadways, with much of it believed to be headed toward wildfire relief efforts. Wildfires in southwest Kansas resulted in significant losses of cattle, forage, and grazing acreage. Adequate grass hay supplies are available statewide, with inventory positioned to assist producers in affected areas as recovery efforts continue. Overall, demand appears stable, with transportation patterns reflecting support for areas impacted by recent fires.
