Compared to last week, steers sold 2.00 to 6.00 higher. Heifers under 750 lbs sold 2.00 to 7.00 higher; over 750 lbs sold steady to 4.00 higher. Demand was good. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 higher, while slaughter bulls sold steady to 3.00 lower. Feedlot trade in Kansas this week steady to 1.00 lower at 209.00 to 210.00. This past week in the hay market, demand was light, and trades remained slow. Prices were mostly steady. Contributors continued to talk about the worsting drought conditions as many are busy in the fields preparing for the planting season. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for the week of March 18th, significant changes were largely limited to Kansas, where expansion or introduction of abnormal dryness (D0) and moderate to severe drought (D1 to D2) resulted from mostly warm, dry, windy weather.
