Compared to last week, The King of the Ring Auction in Dodge City KS had a nice offering contributing to larger receipts this week. A steady to higher undertone is noted. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher. Demand was good. In the hay market, Demand is still very light for all hay offerings while hay prices remain steady but soft. According to the US Drought Monitor's High Plains summary for the week of July 16th A few pockets of above-normal precipitation were recorded in areas of eastern Kansas at the end of the current period. Abnormally dry conditions were expanded in northwest and southeast Kansas as well as in eastern Colorado while Moderate drought was introduced over eastern Colorado. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) increased to 34%, moderate drought (D1) remained at 14.5%, severe drought (D2) remained at 4%, and no extreme drought (D3) or exceptional drought (D4) was recorded.
