Compared to last week: The best comparable weight range for Steer Calves was 500-700lbs, which were sharply higher from last week's smaller calf sale. Heifer Calves 550-600 were also sharply higher. Yearling Steers 900-950lbs were 7.00 lower, and Yearling Heifers 950-1000lbs were mostly steady, on smaller tests. Spring calve quality varied, but most sold on good demand, with most of the regular buyers back in the seats. A few larger producers brought calves, offering a few load lots, but most were smaller packages. Several packages of lighter weight calves came through, with some not even making 300lbs. Yearlings sold on moderate demand, as the run on yearlings is getting smaller. The drought conditions in the area are causing producers to make some difficult decisions. Dry weather and above normal temperatures are expected to continue. Next week's sale, Oct 11, starts at 9:00am, with yearlings first, followed by spring calves.
