Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs steady to 2.00 higher, over 550 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower. Heifer calves under 400 lbs 10.00 lower, over 400 lbs sold unevenly steady overall. Best demand for light weight steers to make yearlings of, more moderate for the heavier weight steers as the supply is very plentiful of cattle weighing over 550 lbs. Demand for heifers was more moderate overall except for some top quality, replacement type heifer calves were met with a very active market. There was definitely pressure on the market this week from the issue of truck availability. As so many cattle are moving currently throughout the plains region it has become difficult to secure a truck to get your cattle hauled home. Many long strings of calves in the offering again this week as cattle producers are running short of grass and needing to sell stock. Some consignments were showing the affects of the mid-October winter storm and the short, dry pasture conditions. Feeder cattle special sale again next week, Nov 12, 2021.
