Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers 4.00 to 6.00 lower, Holstein steers steady. Demand was moderate at best this week. The packer buyers were all present and ready to buy cattle, but were determined to buy cattle at a cheaper level. Cash direct trade was established at lower money on Tuesday which set the pace for the auction. There were some really attractive, high quality grading steers and heifers on offer, 11 full loads of steers and 5 full loads of heifers with the balance part loads and small packages. Boxed beef continues to slide back into the low 200s causing packers to set their bids for fat cattle lower. Weighing conditions ranged from fair to full, estimated dressed cost looked to be from 152.00-160.00. Slaughter cows and bulls 2.00 to 5.00 higher compared to Monday's sale.
Slaughter lambs 3.00 to 6.00 higher, with the full advance on those lambs under 100 lbs. Slaughter ewes 4.00 to 6.00 higher in a narrow comparison. Feeder lambs too lightly tested last week to allow a good comparison. Demand for slaughter lambs was just moderate, moderate to good slaughter ewes, good to very good demand for feeder lambs as there were many farmer feeders actively bidding this week.
