Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers mostly steady. Holstein steers 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Demand still just moderate overall. Offerings mostly new crop calf fed steers and heifers. 4 full loads of steers, 1 full load of heifers, balance small packages and part loads. Weighing conditions ranged from full to an average weighup, estimated dressed cost looked to be from 170.00-185.00. Packers were ready to buy some cattle today but were not going to push it above last week's highs. Sporadic direct country sales show 190.00 dressed and 120.00 live but the volume is extremely limited as the weighted average is below 115.00. Daily slaughter today reached 110,000 as more plants get geared back up and running at closer to normal levels than what they were last week. Slaughter cows steady to 2.00 lower, bulls 3.00 to 5.00 higher.
Traditional weight slaughter lambs not well compared, but a higher undertone was evident. Lambs under 100 lbs 15.00 to 20.00 lower, except a light test of 50 lbs sold sharply higher. Slaughter ewes steady to 5.00 lower. Feeder lambs unevenly steady. Only moderate demand for slaughter lambs of traditional and non-traditional weights, slaughter buyers were not willing to chase the light lambs to buy them away from the lamb feeders. Demand still good for slaughter lambs. Moderate to good demand for feeder lambs.
