Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers 1.00 to 2.00 higher, Holstein steers 4.00 to 5.00 higher. Moderate to good demand from packer buyers, good demand from two way buyers. A large offering of high quality grading, very attractive steers and heifers. Weighing conditions were fair, quite a few overnight cattle that were pretty empty but there were plenty of morning haul cattle that were carrying more fill. Many consignments carrying wet tag as feedyard conditions are wet. Packer buyers were willing to give a little more for cattle this week as the boxed beef continues to post daily gains of 1.00 to 2.00. Two way buyers were eager to buy steers and heifers that could use more days on feed as the winter months of the CME Live Cattle contracts are dollars higher than the current cash market, these buyers really helped push the market along as some packer buyers still showing little interest in buying cattle at the auction. Estimated dressed costs looked to be in the range of 178.00-182.00 with most cattle costing 180.00-182.00. 21 full loads of steers, 3 full loads of heifers. Slaughter cows 1.00 to 3.00 higher than Monday's sale, bulls not well compared but a higher undertone evident.
Slaughter lambs 1.00 to 2.00 lower, slaughter ewes not well compared as there were few offered, feeder lambs sold with much higher undertones. Moderate to good demand for slaughter lambs, good demand for slaughter ewes. Very good demand for feeder lambs as there were more buyers on the seats this week wanting to buy lambs.
