Compared to last week: A very large offering of yearling steers and heifers sold on a very active market, steers and heifers too lightly tested last week to make a good, accurate price comparison. Steer and heifer calves sold with a lower undertone, heavy rains last week have made for very muddy and soft ground conditions which had an effect on the calf market here today. Many long strings of high quality yearling steers and heifers in the offering, one string of nearly 800 head, allowed buyers to make full feedyard pens of uniform cattle from one outfit, many other full load and multiple load lots offered. Flesh condition ranged from moderate to moderate plus, few light fleshed. The quality of calves was a little uneven, which created an uneven market as buyers are not willing to chase the market to buy a calf without fall preconditioning shots, carrying too much flesh, or just not top quality. The market was active on those top quality calves, less active on the others. Slaughter cows mostly steady, bulls 3.00 lower.
