Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 550 lbs mostly steady, over 550 lbs steady to 4.00 lower. Feeder heifers under 700 lbs mostly steady, over 700 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower. A nice offering of long time weaned, home raised steers and heifers. The market was uneven as demand was very good for steers and heifers weighing under 550 lbs, as there were many buyers competing heavily to buy these good cattle, demand was much more moderate for the heavier weight steers and heifers. There was a good supply of light calves, the market was very active on this class of cattle. Buyers of heavier weight feeder cattle are being much more wary in their approach to buying cattle and are trying to buy those that have a break even price in line with where the futures contracts are at. The sharp decline in the futures market last week really had a negative affect on the heavier feeder cattle this week. Slaughter cows steady with last Wed, bulls not well compared.
