Compared to last week: Feeder steers too lightly tested last week to offer a comparison with this week's much larger steer offering. The best test on feeder heifers were those 800-850 lbs which sold 1.00 higher, other weights not well compared. Good demand for the many packages of light weight cattle suitable for backgrounding on grass or in feedyards, demand only moderate for the heavier weight cattle bound for finishing yards. Several very large strings of backgrounded steers and heifers, offered in full loads and multiple load lots. Quality was very attractive on these backgrounded cattle, flesh ranged from moderate to heavy on some. The market activity was slow on the heavy fleshed cattle, moderate on the moderate flesh, very active on the light fleshed cattle as there were many buyers on the seats looking to buy green cattle to turn out on grass. Cattle feeders are cautious as they approach the market on big,heavy yearlings (weighing over 900 lbs) as the futures contracts are currently at 108.00 and they are tired of losing money and are no longer willing to buy cattle betting the market will get better. Slaughter cows and bulls 2.00 to 4.00 lower.

Next feeder cattle auction will be June 3, 2019 due to the Memorial Day Holiday on May 27, 2019.
