Compared to last week: yearling steers not well compared, best test on yearling heifers 7.00 to 9.00 higher on a narrow comparison. Very good demand for yearlings, both out of yards and off grass. Flesh varied quite a bit, even on grass cattle, from moderate to some heavy flesh at times. Yearling sold in loads and strings with opportunities to buy multiple loads to fill pens which buyers did at times. This was the first spring calf offering, calves met with good to very good demand. Just a light offering of calves, all off the cow, with quite a few loads for such a limited offering. Flesh varied with some calves in light flesh to some that had seen quite a bit of creep feed in moderate plus. Preconditioning varied, but most calves had at least one complete round of shots. An active market on both yearlings and calves with the normal crowd of buyers and a few farmer feeders in the seats determined to own cattle despite a day of large losses on the feeder complex. This was finally a sunny day and many were able to get back in the field to start harvesting again. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, October 24.
